About the Project
This design was created as a "Paint the County" mural project, led by CREATE Portage County. It is one of a series of murals created to to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. This "Suffragette Movement" series specifically sought to provide revenue for artists and bring attention to women from historically underrepresented communities through public art. The design honors the rich farming history of central Wisconsin with a quote from author and artist Morgan Harper Nichols. The white and purple are a representative colors of the Suffragette Movement.
